Student Involvement in County Government
Chris prioritizes reaching out to his fellow students, seeking their ideas and inputs on the issues that affect them and the greater Dane County community. His appointment to the Dane County Environmental Council taught him the basics of county government and complemented the education he was receiving at the university in political science and environmental studies. Once elected, Chris will:
- Stay engaged with the campus community, reaching out to organizations and individual students
- Push for increased appointments of students to county committees by inviting interested and motivated students
- Maintain a campus presence through weekly office hours and student outreach
- Continue a strong online social media presence in an effort to reach out to a diverse array of students and community members
- Increase student awareness of county issues that would benefit from student input
Promoting Campus Safety
One of the greatest services the Dane County Board provides the UW campus is ensuring public protection. There are some simple steps that the County Board can take to increase campus safety and the welfare of the students.
Once elected, Chris will:
- Address issues with 911 Call Center to ensure rapid response times and appropriate allocation of our emergency services
- Fight to protect funding for the key services that ensure campus safety, notably the Sheriff’s office, police dispatch center and new interoperable radio systems
- Advocate for prevention, treatment and rehabilitation services to those affected by drug and alcohol abuse by securing funding for the Dane County Drug Court
- Promote communication and increased cooperation amongst the city of Madison, Dane County, and Dane County’s municipalities
Sustaining Our Environment and Resources
As the District 5 Supervisor, Chris will:
- Lead the creation of a County Office of Sustainability to house sustainable initiatives across county government and within the community
- Push to fund programs like Yahara CLEAN and the Clear Lakes Initiative, setting a clear plan to restore the quality of our lakes
- Increase the water quality in Dane County by supporting the construction and funding of manure digesters that remove harmful phosphorus from fertilizers and use methane to provide energy for thousands of homes
- Stand for the expansion of Dane County’s bike trails in an effort not only to reduce pollution, but to promote traffic reduction and healthier transportation alternatives
- Support policies that would clean up beaches and shorelines so that residents may recreationally enjoy the lakes without fear of dangerous debris or pollutants
- Expand MedDrop boxes throughout the County that prevent medical supplies and prescriptions from hurting children and local ecosystems
